This breakthrough in high- performance, wide-area networking has been made possible through the use of advanced fibre optic network interfaces that utilize standard terrestrial telecommunications systems and equipment.
This paper begins with a description of the basic architecture of the system. Some of the key new technologies that are used in this system are then described. The paper concludes with a discussion of the details of the system implementation.
