Media Links to Unveil HD Transport Solution at NAB2006
New, cost-effective solution transports HD signals over 270 Mb/s Telco circuits with incredibly low latency
NAB Booth #C9537
April 19, 2006 (Shelton, CT) - Media Links, Inc. today announced that it will debut the MD2500-HD270 coax module for the MD2000 HD processing system in Media Links booth #C9537 at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Convention being held April 24-27 in Las Vegas. The MD2500-HD270 allows broadcasters to transport high-quality high-definition (HD) signals in real time over existing standard-definition (SD) equipment and circuits operating at 270 Mb/s.
“With the launch of the MD2500-HD270, broadcasters now have a cost-effective, efficient solution for transporting HD signals between facilities or between different cities”, said John Dale III, senior product manager for Media Links. “Most broadcasters today have easy access to 270 Mb/s infrastructure, particularly in the United States, where low-cost 270 Mb/s circuits are widely available from a variety of local and long distance communications providers. The MD2500-HD270 allows broadcasters to transport HD video signals using existing 270 Mb/s equipment and the lower bandwidth circuits, while maintaining outstanding video quality and extremely low latency.”
The MD2500-HD270 uses slice-based MPEG-2 encoding, an advanced technique that allows the entire process of encoding and decoding to add less than 10 milliseconds of end-to-end latency to the video signal. The dual-encoder design generates a standards-compliant elementary stream operating at over 200 Mb/s, providing extremely high video fidelity. All 16 audio channels that can be embedded in a SMPTE-292M HD video signal (8 stereo pairs or 8 AES-EBU digital audio signals) are sent transparently through the 270 link and recovered at the decoder side. Ancillary data, including VITC and closed captions are also delivered transparently.
Designed to ensure compatibility with existing 270 Mb/s equipment and services, each stream contains all of the SAV and EAV timing reference codes that would be found in a standard 270 Mb/s stream, along with a full compliment of EDH check words and flags. This attention to detail helps prevent equipment that switches and transports the signals from alarming. Dual redundant power supplies and an SNMP compliant controller with built-in web browser ensure that the system can be controlled and monitored locally or remotely.
