Network Access & Codecs
Media Links Edge/Access and Codec equipment includes the MD8200, MD2000/MD-003 and VC/VD7700 product lines. These products provide cost effective and compact media to network interface at the source of the media content. Typically this is on the access side of the network either in customer premise or venue locations. These products can be utilized with MD8000 Transport and Switching equipment or can be used to interface media directly to the service provider's core network. As with the MD8000 product line these products allow network interface to SONET/SDH, Ethernet or IP networks and include robust transport features like packet resend and multiple unicast to guarantee pixel perfect media delivery.MD8200 Product Line
MD8200 provides high density media and data access to Ethernet, IP, SDH, PDH and SONET networks all within a single rack unit shelf. In addition, the MD8200 combines media via DVB-ASI or Ethernet inputs with user data via 10/100/1000BT interfaces allowing both media and data access within the same system. QoS is configurable although typical operation would give priority to media signals and allow data signals to scale up or down based on the presence of media signals which have higher priority.In addition MD8200 allows users to interface with legacy media DVB-ASI signals and migrate to IP or Ethernet codecs in the future without having to replace their network adaptation hardware.
MD2000/MD-003 Product Line
MD2000 provides the right size system for the application. MD2000 is a modular system of media to network adaptors and includes the MD-003 GETR Ethernet aggregation switch with electrical to optical capability. The MD2000/MD-003 systems include 3 shelves; a single half rack unit shelf for a single media adaptor; a full single rack unit shelf which can house 2 media adaptors and a switch; and a two rack unit shelf which can house 8 media adaptors.Each adapter provides an Ethernet/IP output that can be connected directly to an Ethernet/IP network, aggregated with other signals via the local GETR switch or input to the MD8200 for SDH/SONET network interface.
MD2000 network adapters utilize advanced JPEG2000 and MPEG2 I frame encoding, as well as transparent SDI and DVB-ASI encapsulation with robust and standard based forward error correction (FEC). In addition, these adapters can be configured to provide multiple unicast for non multicast enabled networks and also to provide packet resend capability to handle long burst outages caused by network protection switching or re-routing.
Media Links also provides a interoperation for JPEG2000 across the MD8000 and MD2000 product lines. The MD8000 and MD2000 JPEG2000 video interface supports multiple formats of SD-SDI and HD-SDI signals per the JPEG2000 ISO/IEC 15444-1 Annex A to produce extremely high video quality; JPEG2000 9/7 irreversible compression is employed for both HD-SDI and SD-SDI. The video format is YcRcB 4:2:2, 10 bit JPEG2000 Part 1 and the JPEG2000 Encoder passes up to 16 uncompressed embedded audio channels along with the V-Ancillary data, time code and audio control.
Codecs
In addition Media Links offers a self contained, small form factor, low latency H.264 video encoder and decoder for use on networks that require minimum transmission bandwidth and delay. These Codecs provide 4:2:2 high performance video coding with selectable latency based on the selected output rate. VC/VD7700 H.264 Low Latency 4:2:2 Encoder/Decoders allow HD compression from 5 Mbps to 110Mbps and include both COP3/SMPTE 2022 1/2 encapsulation or DVB-ASI output. Multiple latency modes allow the optimum configuration balancing latency and picture quality.
